Balotelli Set for Serie A Return with Genoa Move

Mario Balotelli is poised to revive his career in Italy, joining struggling Genoa on a free transfer until season’s end.

After four months without a club, Balotelli’s transfer is nearing completion, subject to medical tests on Monday. The 34-year-old striker has accepted a reduced salary with performance-based bonuses. His pre-tax salary is reportedly between €400,000 and €500,000, linked to appearances and performance.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Balotelli has held multiple discussions with Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino. Gianluca Di Marzio adds that the contract can be cancelled under certain conditions.

Balotelli has been a free agent since June when he was released by Turkish club Adana Demirspor. His last stint in Italy’s Serie A was with Brescia during the 2019-2020 season, and he also played for Monza in Serie B in 2020-2021.

Genoa, currently 18th in Serie A, seeks Balotelli’s firepower to escape relegation. The club faces Lazio on Sunday.
